Hi, first post and thought id share my AWD experiences!
Bought an 05 D5 back in August with 125000 on the clock at a good price, having checked and fully aware of a free spinning propshaft ( thanks to the fantastic advice here).
Wasn't too worried about the lack of rear drive, but it's starting to niggle and with the temperatures starting to drop I thought I'd get it sorted.
Best case - spline sleeve, worst case - transfer box.

Good news...Sleeve came off quite easily apparently, but not-so-good news, the splines were non-existent.

Worst news - the splines on the gear shaft were not much better. Probably 50% gone or more.

I guess the car has most likely been running for a good few 10000s for both sets of splines to be buggered.

I had factored this in when I bought the car, just was hoping it wasn't going to be this bad! As long as the rear shocks don't need replacing any time soon (like my brothers did!!) we should be fine.

So took the plunge and a new transfer box ordered.

Great forum and also stripped and repaired the rear wiper based on knowledge here. Hope to contribute more regularly too!
