Two ways to find out if you have a hall sensor. Look under the distibutor and see if there is a plug with 3 wires going in. Not the thick HT ones. If there is a plug you have a hall sensor. Second way is to look at the top of the bell housing directly behind the engine block. If there is a plug that goes in here this is the flywheel position sensor. If it has one then there is a good chance that you have not got a hall sensor. Hall sensors were a real problem and when my mates went (at a certain temperature every day) there were no replacements to be found in any scrappers so it must be a commonish problem. Cheers Nigel PS I'm having more problems with my 1998 940 than my mate has with a 1991 Skoda so I think that there is a moral here as well as price advantage.
