Having had a number of devices in the past my vote definitely goes to the one I currently use and it was also Auto Express's recommended selection in a recent review. I use a Talex, one of the cheapest and simplest devices on the market - no false alarms like my previous Snooper S4 and it also warns of areas where mobile cameras are likely to be situated. It is 100% legal and will remain so since it doesn't have a radar detector which never worked on my Snooper anyway!
Only minor problem is the reflection in the windscreen from the silver top cover but this has been changed with the new Talex Lite which is even cheaper, lacks only a few features of the Talex and was the best buy for Auto Express.
I don't condone speeding but when you are in a strange town, looking for road signs, directions etc the last thing you need to be doing is watching out for cameras.
