Re: plastic panels on doors

Following an accident and some re-spraying, there are signs of paint/wax on the plastic panels which cannot be cleaned. I am assured it is wax rather than paint but wonder if anyone has any ideas on cleaning the panels without damaging them.

If it is wax then it should come off with washing up liquid (use neat with a sponge). But at the same time, if it came back from a respray like that then it is not your issue, it is a problem for the people who did the respray, don't let them fob you off!

I agree dont let the repairer fob you off.

Was it a main dealer with an internal body shop? - if so reject it, if it was a main dealer without a body shop still knock it back.

If it was an insurance approved repairer take it up with the insurers, and tell tham you are unhappy with the quality.

Often when repairing body components, the panels are cleaner with very agressive solvents and these will damage door seals and bits of plastic / ABS trim. Often the repairer will used some untrained nugget to do the labour, then the painter finishes off the final rubbing down and painting. Most two pack paints, will contain 'nasites' that also will affect the plastic panels if not masked fully from the paint application.

Good Luck
