AWD Fail?
Hi guys, hope you can help.
I had a warning pop up stating ' AWD system disabled, service required' I scanned the system and it comes up with error: DME-000E Any one had this before? |
I think you mean:
DEM-000E Differential Oil Pump Motor failure |
This is for a 4th gen Haldex and compares the 3 vs 4 vs 5: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uZNC06Z7imQ
I serviced my 2013's Haldex 4 at 140k km and the brushes were in great shape! If you're mechanically / electrically inclined see if there's anything that stands out when you remove the motor case. My 2012 XC60 sees a lot less km (30k km) and wont be getting this service for some years to come. In VIDA, you can graph current sent to motor vs torque requested from rear axle vs torque actually sent to rear axle to test if you've fixed it. |
It’s not unheard of, there is a electric motor based pump in the Aoc that can give up.
You should remove it and examine/test it first - sometimes they fail electrically (brushes) and sometimes mechanically, possible due to debris in the oil. Occasionally it is possible to repair them. It’s a simple small pump but with a heavy price tag if I recall.... |
Hi guys thank you for the reply.
Thank you for confirming it's the AOC pump. I know it's not the oil or filter as I changed this 2 months ago and cleaned the motor at the same time. Is there a test pattern I can use or can vida activate the pump so I can test with a meter etc? |
Hi guys, do you know if I can unplug the AOC motor and supply 12 v feed direct it should work etc?
Just looking at a test plan? |
So just having a little look on vida.
It states there should be a ground and a power feed to pump (battery voltage) On the pump there is a black and yellow wire, I can only probe 1 wire due to access and holding the protection cover out the way. So ign on, red prob to yellow and black prob to chassis ground and I have battery voltage from the DEM. Wish I could do a direct test to make sure I dont have an earth issue from DEM but it looks like it is the pump at fault so far. The diff is coming out in the next week or so (failed bearing) so will bench test pump at same time, if it does not work I will strip pump or replace. |
The DEM is cabled very simply: power and CAN bus
So only 4 wires: Power, Ground, CAN lo and CAN hi CAN is a twisted pair, should be easy to spot, should be thin wires. |

Would you know what pin numbers out of the 4 cables are a direct feed to the oil pump motor? |

There is a power feed, which feeds power to the DEM to drive all the electronics, and also supplies power to the motor. Wire colours are in VIDA as follows, using a MY2009 XC90: Pin 1 = +12V power, blue/red wire, from fuse F23 in the REM Pin 2 = Ground, brown wire, to grounding point 31/46 Pin 4 = Ground, black wire, also to grounding point 31/46 Pin 7 = green wire, CAN bus lo Pin 8 = white wire, CAN bus hi |
