Which s60 to buy?

Hi All,

I think I have finally decided to get an S60, which I will need with an auto gearbox.

Can anybody help me decide which to get?

I don't want to spend much on the purchase, but then i don't want to spend too much repairing it either.

Do I get D5 163 or D5 185
or do I go petrol? 2.0T, 2.4T or 2.5T
What age is best?

whats the differences regarding reliability, service costs, mpg, performance, etc..

my budget can be up to and around £5k, but would rather spend closer to £3-3.5k

I do around 30-35 miles a day, 5 days a week of mixed driving.
Average miles a year is about 12-13k

I will also need the ISOFIX attachment in the rear

a number of engine options here . you have to narrow it down to petrol or diesel .
generaly diesel will halve your fuel bill and still give great performance .
if you want diesel the older 163 bhp engine is best for economy and less trouble and still goes like a train . The 185 and it's 6 speed gearbox is superb if you are used to performance cars ..
Petrol , the 2.4T is superb a good compromise . fuel consumption doesnt differ a great deal betwen all the petrol engines . If you are keen on performance get the 2006- T5 265 bhp ..
If it were me, for general use , a 2003-2004 163 bhp D5 ...
drive one see what you think ...

Yeah, go for an earlier 163 bhp model. The gearbox being looked after is very important on these auto's, try to find out if the ATF has been changed, if not, i would put some new in on purchase.

High miles shouldn't be a problem if looked after. Mines on 163k and goes like a train but my only slight worry is how much longer I've got on my clutch/flywheel.

Once you get over 100000 it gets better and better , more economical and more power it seems , still uses minimal oil , by then if the injectors were going to play up they would , look forward to clocking over 200,000 miles ;-)
Cluch should be ok if it hasnt been abused , but that depends on the treatment it's had , they certainly are not prone to failure .

Hey r30ser,

I have an S60 for sale and has everything you require apart from being a manual (including ISOFIX). Let me know if you're interested, it's still for sale.

Cheers

Which one to buy?

Hello,

I have narrowed down to 3 choices.

I have found a an S60 SE 2005 facelift with a euroIII D5 163 engine and Auto gearbox.
It has 98k on the clock, and is for sale for £5500 from a dealer.

an S60 SE 2004 pre facelift euroIII D5 163 with an Auto gearbox.
It has 60k on the clock, for sale for £5500 from a dealer.

and I have found an S60 SE 2006 D5 185 with an Auto gearbox with 65k on the clock for £7,500 from a dealer.

Which one would be the best choice, for running costs, lack of problems etc..

I do a 35mile round trip commute each day on mixed roads.
