Leaded Four Star.....run it if you can!
 

Just found an outlet garage in cheshire that sells the real mcCoy of leaded petrol, £1.45 per litre, popped £30.00's worth in, then proceeded to drive the 30 odd miles back home!

The engine has never felt so alive! You definatley notice after around 3 - 4 miles, the engine goes very quiet and much more eager to get up and go, and at idle the engine is very quiet, so after much searching and research, for locating the petrol, its 100% worth it if you can use it in your car!

Also the 55-60 mile round trip of winding country lanes and bends, right into the hills and farmlands is well worth it for a relaxing ride for petrol! Heck even the guy in the fuel station came out and filled the car for me!

It's probably the higher octane, I'm guessing. My engine idles much quieter with the correct octane fuel. I can only think that's a good thing. I don't know why this is though. Our cars have knock sensors so the igntion timing would be retarded if knock was detected but my ECU didn't detect knock when I drove with a test-light hooked up on the dash when running 95RON.

Are you 100% sure its "leaded" fuel? as this stuff is legally banned in the UK for general sale, thats why we have to buy the lower graded unleaded fuels.
Unleaded fuel runs at about 95 octane. [sorry initially put 97 !]
Super unleaded is about 98 octane
Super plus/ ultimax fuels are a shade over 99 octane.

thats why if you can afford to run the higher priced stuff, you car runs better, but none of them contain lead, its simply a higher octane grade.

All standard unleaded petrol I've seen for sale had been 95RON.

LRP (super) is 97RON where I've seen it for sale.

Super unleaded tends to be 97RON, 98RON, or even higher. I did once buy 100RON from Tesco.

yes pu50 is 95ron and su50 is 97/98ron dependent on supplier, leaded petrol is a big no no not sure where this station would source it from and it cant be legal every delivery of petrol has to have a petroleum delivery certificate signed by the tanker driver and competent person in charge of the petrol station and this has to be kept for a minimum of 6 months and up to 2 years.

Appologies guys, I did initially put unleaded as 97 ron, it were a 2type error2 on my behalf and have corrected, wouldnt think I used to run a fuel forecourt now would you [ha ha].

I can only presume someone has put a sign up as "LRP " [lead replacement fuel] but why someone would after so many years, does not really compute.

I'm not going to say anything about how many cars still "have" to run leaded fuels, thats too much of a boiling point on any forum, as I even deal with some of these beut's on classic and vintage car races. try telling the owner of a 24 ltr napier bentley to run regular unleaded, it should test the power output of your legs anyway !

Do you have a post code for this petrol station selling leaded fuel? I'm guessing their 4-star is just LRP. Some stations call LRP, '4-star'.

No its not banned, its restricted to account for 0.5% of all petrol sales, Bayford Thrust oil company sell this, its proper leaded petrol i recognise the smell anywhere i pulled up to the fuel station and i watched the guy fill my tank and a few plastic petrol cans out of my boot. checked my spark plugs today, a lovely lead grey powder residue and a whitish grey coating in my exhaust pipe, yep its leaded! They heavily tax this stuff..why would they cease it for sale? Apart from te lead it burns cleaner than unleaded...

The goverment have restricted leaded petrol ever since it was 'banned' back in 2000, and only a few garages are licensed to sell this fuel, He's a favourite amongst the classic car clubs. Piston aircraft, racing cars and older vintage engines still use this stuff
