V70 7 pin elecs

£74 inc trade discount for a genuine plug in wiring loom for my '97 v70. Thats more than i paid for the towbar!

So, is there a trick to splicing into the car without upsetting/damaging the bulb warning system? Or do i have to give into the dealer?

Thanks people.

I would buy the dealer kit as it is so welll designed and easy to fit. Worth paying the price for the hassle free installation.

Hi Jim thanks.

I dont need it for a while yet so i can save up :)

Also is there a pre drilled hole in the back panel which a grommet sits in or do i have to use a hole cutter myself?

From my memory the wiring is passed into the boot by a plug on the boot floor that is knocked out or by the vent panel on the right hand side behind the bumper.

If your wiring is like the 940 and 960 like me and my dad have, you can splice ino the supplied connector. Look for a white or black 10 way connector behind one of the panels left hand side of the boot.
llike this: http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/attach...9&d=1184295172

On my 960 saloon, it was hidden near the wheel arch.

I found that terminal 1 goes to terminal 1 on the 7 way, terminal 2 to terminal 2, etc. Just scoth lock the 7 core to the wires at the back of the connector.
Perform a test on each first to confirm I am correct.
Just follow the standard 7 core cable designations:

You may need to change the indicator relay to get the trailer indicator light on the instruments

Didnt notice that reply, thanks!

Hmmm not seen that connector, ill have to look harder. Does your car have a bulb warning system? If so does it affect it? Im afraid i could cause some damage and thats the last thing i want to do.

niloc Jan 15th, 2008 20:19

Yes, it has the bulb failure. The connector could be buried - look for it!
The connector is there so genuine Volvo technicians can say that it took hours to fit the towbar, when it only really took about half hour (including bolting the damn thing on)!!

Well ive just been poking around in the boot under street light! Pulled panelling out and found nothing. Only panel i couldnt remove was the long trim across the boot striker as i dont have any torx bits at home. Dont think ill find anything there. Wonder where the volvo kit plugs in then...

Anyway i work in a dealer across the road from Volvo so ill try pop over and ask one of the guys!

I am trying to remember going way back in my memory having fitted one in 1997. Think there were 3 or 4 connectors to be used. One plugged into each of the tail lamps and the other two plugged into connections in the left hand wheel arch. Note: this is an educated guess.
