clutch position sensor

hello all. had engine service required message appear on my 2004 s60 d5 se. had codes read and turns out to be clutch position sensor fault. can anyone please tell me how to go about replacing it as haynes manual only tells me what it does, and not how to fix the problem. thank you for your help in advance. this is a great forum. had 2 litre 850 before the s60 d5. saving a fortune with diesel power. 42 mpg around town!!!!! £160 a month fuel bill cut down to £80.

it is very easy it is down behind the brake pedal on the floor , buy your new sensor and you will see it, a pop ball joint at each end and a connector . It will probably have failied due to slight leakeage from the clutch master cylinder , the fluid gets in the sensor and ruins it . Rather than change the cylinder which doesnt cause and noticable leakage from the reservoir i'd put a cloth over the sensor to absorb the odd drip which drops down ...

thanx for your speedy reply as i am planning to do it over the weekend. did you say its behind the brake pedal????? also is it a case of unscrewing the old sensor and fitting the new sensor? please tell me its as easy as that.thanks for your help.

it is easier to see if you take down the panel around the pedals held with 2 torx screws,
there is a small hand grip to pull the ball socket off the pedal , the other end is held at the forward edge by a similar ball socket it will pull off . It is easier than it sounds , no unscrewing :-)
