Advice & Recommendation needed please

Hello, new member here so apologies if this is in the wrong place. I have a 2010 XC90 D5, 223500 miles on her, full history etc but have a problem. I’m 99% certain it’s hydraulic lifters as it’s a ticking noise that rises and falls with the revs and is louder when the engine is warm, in addition to this we have a deep thumping noise which is massively apparent when the oil filler cap is removed. I’ve tried hydraulic lifter treatments from Wynns and Liqui-Moly but without success so have resigned myself to the fact I’ll have to get them replaced, however this seems easier said than done as I’ve now approached several local garages who won’t even quote for the job! So I guess my main question is, can anybody recommend a garage in the Alsager, Crewe, Congleton, Stoke area who a, will actually quote for the work and b, hopefully not require me to sell a kidney to pay for the repair 😳
Thanks in advance 😊👍🏻

Not surprising with the miles though is it? Long term service items I suppose and not the end of the engine.

Don't overlook the vacuum pump . If it is pumping hard trying to build up a vacuum it ejects the air it collects into the back of the pump and out into the camshaft area so will cause a chuff chuff noise !

It only produces the chuf chuf (lol) noise if there is a leak .If there is no leak then there is no air to produce the chuf chuf (lol) noise

yep
thats what "If it is pumping hard trying to build up a vacuum" means 👍

Yeah, I did consider the vac pump, it still makes the noise even with the main vac hose (from the nipple on the pump) plugged tight, even went as far as changing the pump out, just to rule it out.

It’s been a long road this one and it’s certainly got me scratching my head, as I said in my reply to Clan, it still makes the noise with the hose plugged, even tried a new length of hose, just in case (that was before changing out the pump) again, just to rule it out.

if it makes noise it has a leak.... check the engine mounts first and if you have a manual gearbox check the egr bypass valve they almost all go bad you can blind the hose off .
The bypass valve alternates during warmup the gasses in the egr cooler or not warmup the cat faster but if it switched off all the gasses passes in the egr cooler which warms up the coolant faster.
The auto gearbox doesent even have one .
If that all is ok check the brakebooster on leaks
