Which Engine, 2011 V70, 2.5T or T5

Hi,

We're planning on changing our 2011 V50 2.0 petrol for a V70 (we need the extra space).

I've found two which are Japanese imports (which doesn't sound like much of an issue) which have two difference engines.

One is the T5 (2litre) the other 2.5T.

Does anyone know which is the better one to go for?

Thank you!

Pretty certain they are the same engines with different turbos.

Edit I'm not sure having seen the T5 is 2.0l

T5 I think.

The T5 is way better on fuel (surprisingly) and much cheaper on road tax, with slightly more horse power.

Thanks for the reply.

From a bit of digging myself, it seems that although the T5 has a lower displacement (2ltr vs 2.5 ltr) it has higher HP (240 vs 231) and better MPG.

The 2.5T has higher torque (340 vs 320Nm).

In short, it doesn't seem there's much in it with the T5 pipping it!

I'm sure just reading the specs is a very shallow way to look at it. There's real world application, reliability, maintenance and design... but i can't Google that.

If anyone has any thoughts, tips or first hand experience, please let me know!

Thank you

If the T5 is 4 cylinder I would go for the 5 cylinder 2.5T as I think it's a better engine.

Also the 4 pot T5 has the Ford Powershift gearbox

I'm going through this right now in the North American market.

I'm smitten with a 2016 XC-70 Platinum Ed. AWD w/ T5 + 6 speed auto. This is a 5 cylinder engine.
Over here, the 5 cyl. was replaced by the 3.2l 6 cyl. This 2016 marks a 1 model year reappearance of a 5 cyl....at least in the No. American market.

The FWD versions have the 2.0l 4 cyl. and are also turbocharged.
Does anyone know about the 2.5 used in the 2016 (ish)?

............and that on it's own is a reason to avoid it.

I agree !

The Ford "Powershift" gearbox is undesirable? Is that an 8 speed.

I'm wringing one out tomorrow
