Engine rattling sound when in drive.

Hi all I'm having an issue when my volvo xc90 2.0d is running in P it's running fine as soon as I put it into D the engine becomes very loud and dissappears as soon as I put it back into p still with engine running , there appears to be a crack in the rubber within the engine mount , would this be enough to cause this. Any advice would be appreciated I have uploaded a video with the sound differences. https://youtube.com/shorts/w9JJLm5Sn...4UekZnJ9m65y_H

The rubber mount looks like it needs replacing. Its not an expensive part and can be easily done yourself. This particular mount is known as a "torque rod", its not actually an engine mount. It doesn't hold the weight of the engine, so there's no need to support the engine like you would have to if removing an actual engine mount.

I don't think that's the cause of that noise though. It sounds like the popping noise the older Volvo's made when there was a vacuum leak. Are you sure the oil filler cap is screwed on properly?

Thanks for the reply as you can probably tell I'm not that mechanical minded hence trying to get a rough idea what it can be , I'm going to take it to south hill garage an independent volvo garage next week. The oil cap is on properly I also have an oil leak coming from here so having to top up these issues have come in the last couple of weeks , it's a 2015 , 105 000 miles.

The engine rocker cover is definitely where this noise is coming from I am now able to pinpoint it anyone have any idea why it would come from there and what could be potentially causing it. Many thanks.

Its a possibility that the rocker cover gasket isn't sealed properly, causing oil to leak out. You're hearing a noise because oil and air is escaping where it shouldn't be (it should be completely sealed).

I don't think the torque mount you posted a video of has anything to do with the noise.

Its hard to tell without actually seeing the car in person. Let the garage do their diagnosis and take it from there.
