Rear Brakes

I have an S80 2.9 T reg (1999) Anybody had probs with rear brake disc corrosion my car has done 46.000 miles. Volvo service said I need to change disc's and brake pads. This saga is a little more involved as the engineer could not explain what had corroded the disc's therefore has left me with a question mark over his opinion.

Can anyone trow some light on this matter. Or had similar experience.

Thanks

RE: Rear Brakes

Volvo do seem to be quite keen to recommend this job on their cars. Corrosion is a fact of life. Water and metal, and/or the reaction between dissimilar metals. Rear brakes do have a reduced load againstthe front, so may get less of the corrosion 'knocked off' during braking. Difficult to offer a real opinion without seeing the state of the pads/discs, but I wouldn't be surprised if a dealer erred on the side of extreme caution (at your expense).
