Power window failure S40 2008

Hi, I am new to this forum and would like some advice

I have a 2008 volvo s40 with an annoying issue with the power windows.
All windows can function with the comfort open/close option by holding the unlock/lock button and also same goes for the buttons on the door.
I have recently found a new switch unit which I have installed with no luck.
The drivers side controls don’t work at all even the mirror adjust. The passenger side window functions correctly with the switch and the two rear windows don’t function with the switch. I have checked as much wiring as I can behind the door card in the door hinge and all looks good to me no breaks or damage. I am trying to locate the relay and can’t find any information on them. I would like to add that all central locking works fine too

I’m hoping somebody here can shed some light for me

TIA

Sounds quite likely that the drivers door electronic module has failed. It's the master control for the other doors. Unfortunately, I think that's software coded to your car and a dealer replacement job. Certainly was the case on my previous S40.

Thanks for the reply

Would the comfort close/open function on all windows still work from the drivers door unlock/lock switch if this was the case?

There are two different types of window control unit and switch pack, and the changeover was sometime in 2008. If your replacement switch pack is of the wrong type then it won't function, so make sure the old and new ones match exactly. It doesn't help that the connectors are the same type, but the later version has some of the connector pins missing.

It's also worth checking the door wiring harness to the A-pillar. From your symptoms it's not the most likely cause, but it's relatively simple and might make a difference. Disconnect the connector on the door and check pins for corrosion, or powdery deposits and clean them if necessary. Make sure you disconnect the battery before doing this or you will get an airbag warning light.

If that's not the issue, then it is most likely to be the electronics module on the window winder motor. You can replace this with a unit from a breakers yard if the part number labels match. If you buy a new one from Volvo, then it will need to have the correct software uploaded to it after it has been fitted, as they only supply new ones with basic software and this needs to be updated to match the options fitted to your car.

Thanks

That’s great help and advice! I will give this a try when I get back from work today and I will let you know the outcome :)

Thanks guys

Turned out to be the switch unit itself had to match part numbers and exactly and it worked straight away no coding required. Appreciate it
