The Rustberg

I saw this video of a 244 and thought of the project motor cars we often hear of:

https://youtu.be/qCL0cdHB1m4

… and the moral is: check carefully before buying an old Volvo

I have not seen this person before. If he decides to put the work into it it certainly would make for a great 'How to' video for all the rust problem areas on most 244 and 245's. i am sure a lot on here would benefit from him taking the time to do it.

Perhaps we should all spam the comment section under that video and push for him to repair it!

I'm sure if they wanted to they could ask the tester how it passed.

Perhaps visit him/her in prison?

PS. Someone linked this to YFS 361R that had sold on eBay recently. It had a pretty ropey MoT record, but at no point did the examiner notice all the rust, bodges and filler. I think he must have tested the car after 5 pints of Old Speckled Hen.

I think he has already realised that motor car isn’t worth saving. It would cost much more to fix than it might ever be worth.

It ought to live on (in parts) as a good source of spares for a whole load of 244s though.

I've just watched the video through and notice the 244 belongs to the presenter's mate - who is indeed restoring it (... you are a better man than I am, Gunga Din!). I've left a comment saying that we have noticed it in the VOC forum and would like to see reports from the project. I'd encourage others to do the same .

Well all I can say is I dont do things because they are easy, I do them because I am stupid.

Yes, I am the owner of the vehicle.

No, I did not view the vehicle beforehand, and to be fair I would not have seen the horrors underneath even if I did (Its a bit rude to go around poking holes in the car)

I knew the MOT history first and for a car of its age its what I expected with the one advisory on the spare wheel well.

This was not meant to be a restoration as I am still in the long term restoration of another Volvo which I was also told to just scrap.

Original plan was to fix the rear end and then use it after the engine got serviced. Now its a bit more involved.

Mark old rusty Volvos and Minis, you crazy fool. 😀👍 Good content and there's worse things to be doing in your spare time.

… as I said in the above Jackman: ‘you are a better man than I am, Gunga Din!’.

I am really impressed that you are going to stick at it and repair the 244, I really like the model (I had a 1980 244 until recently and now have a 1982 240 saloon); I hope you will start a project thread and keep us informed of progress.

Good fortune,

Alan:eek:

PS. We are all stupid - none of this old Volvo stuff makes any sense

I've just read your Amazon thread Jackman (2010-2014), after that you shouldn't find the 244 all that difficult.

Did the Amazon project get finished (I'm also an Amazon bloke: 1963 122S).

:speechless-smiley-5
