V40 bought 1 day ago. P04D900 & CEM-U030141 error Codes

Hi everyone,
My first post.................... and looking for some help from you lovely people.

Just bought a 65 plate V40 D2 with 75,000 miles on it yesterday. On the drive home after a couple of hundred miles the check engine light came on. Car drove as normal with no noticeable difference. I got the car scanned by a (non-Volvo) garage and it pulled up two codes:

P04D900 which seems to be related to EGR and
CEM-U030141 is software compatibility with ECM/PCM check failure

The P04D900 code was reset but the other fault code would not clear. Further up the road the amber check engine light came back on.

Have been in contact with the seller who has offered to either pay for repairs or take the car back for full refund. Dilemma is that we really like the car and it is at the opposite end of the country to return.

I am happy to get it fixed if it is an actual fix but don't want to be the owner of a can of worms and was looking for some help from those more knowledgeable than me on the likely issues related to the fault codes.

Looking at Google, the EGR seems to be a common problem that had a once free fix but now costs around £1100 if it is EGR Cooler low flow problem. I also gather that you can have the EGR blanked off and 'mapped out', but not sure what implications this has.

Hoping that you can give me some sensible advise please.
Thank you.

Whatever the problem is I would get the vendor to pay for it as it will be expensive and prob not the end of the many more small but very expensive issues, and ask for a clean bill of health.
The only proper diagnosis is with a Vida scan via a volvo dealer or indy (if you can find one with vida)

P04D900 is EGR Cooler flow low , blocked with soot probably . First port of call is the dealer to see if there are still outstanding recalls and service policies still applicable on this problem .

What's the betting it's recently been cleaned before sale?

In case it turns out it has and you're stuck with it look up EMAP pipe, chances are this is blocked and if you're lucky it won't cost too much to fix and the dealer you bought from might cough for it,

Not the greatest of starts is it.

Just noticed the dealer has offered you a refund, have his hand off, it's the end of a potentially painful journey in one hit, don't be fond of it it's well known to keep on blocking up,

As I used to say, dating a supermodel with herpes isn't marriage material.
