ETM failure ?

1 Attachment(s)
Good afternoon all.
My in-laws MY2001 V70 2.4 NA threw up a MIL a couple of days back accompanied with intermittent "surges" of power. Urgent engine service appeared on the DIM and the car appears to have gone into limp mode. Recycling the ignition extinguished DIM warning and power returned for a short while before starting to play up again.
I connected up VIDA and read the codes from it.
They are as follows;
ECM-903F THROTTLE POSITION (TP)-SIGNAL MISSING
ECM-914F THROTTLE POSTION (TP)-SENSOR 1 AND 2 - FAULTY SIGNAL
ECM- 91A7 THROTTLE POSITION (TP)- FAULTY CONTORL
ECM-91F0 THROTTLE POSTION (TP)- FAULTY CURRENT
ECM-980F- AIR FLOW-FAULTY FLOW

I reset the codes and asked my father to drive it. He used it the following day on local b roads with no issues, however whilst putting it on a dual carriage way yesterday, the same symptoms reappeared. I've not yet plugged back into it to verify if the same codes have been generated. (I'll do this, this evening). If the codes are the same as before I'm assuming that the ETM is going to be the most likely culprit here. Is the MAF fault a consequence of the ETM issue ?
Whilst visually inspecting under the bonnet on the first instance, I did remove the air filter housing to ETM pipe. The ETM was spotless inside. I've checked for the sticker under the ETM and can confirm it is White.

As it stands, I'm going to re-read codes this afternoon. I've read that VIDA can carry out a sweep test on the ETM but that there is no pass/fail result. Is this correct ?
Any suggestions would be welcomed. Thanks in advance

I've hooked back to up to the car and confirmed that all 4 ETM related codes are back. No sweep test activation was available for this car however I was able to very both TP sensor angles feedbacks.

ECM-914F is triggered if the ETM detects
that the signals from throttle position sensors 1&2 differ by more
than 5% while driving.

Now bare with me here.:lightbulb:
When manually pushing throttle butterfly fully closed pot 1 and 2 read 12.5degrees.
When push fully open they read 101 degrees.
From fully closed to fully open is 88.5 degrees. 5% of this figure is 4.4degrees.
When the butterfly was pushed to approx. mid way, POT 1 read 42.3 degrees and POT 2 read 48.44 degrees. This gap became even greater (closer to 8 degrees) when moving butterfly.
Is a symptom of ETM failure revs holding high (around 2000rpm) when throttle is released and engine hunting ?
Anyone have any ideas of further tests I can carry out ? Or is it time to get it repaired ?

Well they CAN last 15 years as you have proved , also a friend of mine did 200000 miles with no trouble then he bought a XC60 .
Yes time for a new ETM , the replacement with yellow label seem pretty trouble free . Or you can risk a repair by a company i guess , but compare prices carefully first between new and a repair .

Thanks Clan. To be fair, they've had the car for about 5 years now. This is the only problem they've had besides the odd headlight bulb :lightbulb: and the passenger seat wiring being pulled out (by the mother-in-laws handbag).
