Radio swap, Japanese Import 2011 V70
Hi,
I've read another member swapped their radio unit on their Japanese import. The main reason was that the FM radio frequency in Japan is drastically different to ours and you won't pick up any stations. I'm planning on buying a 2011 V70. It's had the dials changed to MPH but the system is still in Japanese. Does anyone know if i change the head unit will it; 1. Allow UK radio (i think this is a given)The car is the LUX version with a pop up Sat Nav... I don't really mind if this stays in Japanese. We all use Google now as the built in ones are pretty dire. If the above does work, would anyone know if this head unit would work? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/156076006...Bk9SR9aviejBYw Thank you! https://i.postimg.cc/hzRHptmh/temp-Image4r-DKBW.avif https://i.postimg.cc/VSCxqCd3/temp-Image5b-Zy3z.avif |

They do language conversions for Japanese imports - including frequency change for radio's I'm not sure about aftermarket radio's for P3's - I suspect it will be a world of pain... |
I have a 2009 V70 from Japan and I used VDASH to convert to mph, changed radio to UK frequency, and the language to UK.
You cannot do anything with the satnav as it is custom Jap installation. Mine is still in and when I work out how to remove it I will. It takes up the glove box. I assume you have the small ariels on the windscreen too. You can take them off. I think the Jap system was a subscription service as there is a card reader in the glove box. Bob |

Is it worth doing the conversion yourself or going to a dealer live Volvo Diagnostic (as above mentioned)? They've quoted me £250 (which doesn't sound too bad) but it will take me 3+ hours to get there! Doing it yourself, did you follow any guides / are you based in the West Country and could i cross your palm with some silver?! |

Do you know of anyone else doing it? Thank you! |
I'm in west London so can't help. Anyone near you with VDASH or VIDA can do it and a lot less than £250. Just remember, when it is done, if you take the car to a Volvo dealer and they plug in to VIDA it will reset to Japanese settings.

By any chance did yours come with an aftermarket bluetooth kit? Mine has a mic in the roof lining but i've no clue how to use it. |
