940 ignition switch

Hi all, new to forum.
I own a 1992 940 2.3 GL Petrol, my problem seems to be the ignition switch, but I'm having trouble locating one. I did find one on ebay that I was told was new and would fit, it was new but was rectangular instead of round. Have you any ideas where I could find one?

The problems started about a year ago when the ignition lights would not come on at startup, but they did come on maybe ten minuted later. Recently I discovered that if I hit the steering column then the lights came on. I contacted one of those on line mechanic sites and they told me it was the ignition switch. I've checked the wiring etc etc and it seems fine.

Anyway, just trying to find this switch, any help would be appreciated.

Hi,

Your "ignition switch" is where you are putting the key. There are a number of known issues with the ignition on these cars.

I have my doubts that it's the ignition switch at fault. It sounds like the printed circuit board on the speedo is dodgy.

I agree with the above post. Far more likely to be the printed circuit board on the back of the clocks which is a known problem that I myself have suffered on two of my previous 940's. Worth noting that if the battery light doesn't light up when you switch the ignition then your battery WONT be charging as this forms part of the charging circuit. The clocks arent too bad to replace but make sure you get exactly the right ones as there are a few different variations
