"Anti skid temporarily switched off" warning on- xc90
 

Hope someone can help! I've had the above warning for past three days, have had front disc pads changed at local garage but they have advised I need to go to a volvo dealership to resolve the issue.
Contacted volvo dealership who can't fit me in until 30th Dec but have told me over phone that there is no traction at present! Small challenge - driving to France on 26th December!
Can anyone advise me what I could check on the car to try to resolve myself?

could be anything from dirty sensor to a broken wire,
you need to start with getting the codes pulled. perhaps some kind chap on here might have a code reader, must be someone not far from you who has one.

I had the same thing recently on my V70 and they said it required a software upgrade. I wasn't sure why because I hadn't changed anthing but whatever they did it resolved it.

did you get the warning, straight after having the pads changed ?

No, it came up beforehand but knew pads were due to be changed soon. Warning still on today!

its just that I got the same message on the same day! but I was trying to activate the autolocking, and thought I'd caused it, very strange, mine cleared when I restarted

This is normally to do with an ABS sensor.

We had that fault last year... My Sealey code reader showed no fault, but the OBD was adamant that a fault existed... I took the car to a local indie and his code reader showed a fault with the NSF abs sensor... The fault only showed when the car was in motion though, so a quick shuftie was in order... The indie found that the NSF reluctor ring (metal ring with circular inside dia and castellated outer dia) fitted to the NSF outer CV joint was actually cracked (we had an "incident" with a rock on that corner earlier in the year, it made the wheel a very romantic heart shape too..!!).

I figure that the rock actually hit this ring too ' because it was cracked, causing just one of the gaps between the high points of the castellations to be slightly wider than the others... As soon as the car started moving, the sensor detected the uneven pulses and flagged up a fault...

The part is available separately at a coat of about £14...

I'm told that "excessive" corrosion and debris in the reluctor ring can cause similar problems...

It's a PITA to fix, as the drive shaft has to be withdrawn from the wheel bearing in order to get the new ring on, so labour is much higher than parts costs... Cheaper than an ABS sensor or control unit though... '-)
