Full length roof racks
I have 2 OE full length roof racks as used in days of yore by the local knocker boys. One came off my 240 and the other my 740 and they appear the same. No one is prepared to pay for them despite them being in good nick so they are free, based near Brighton but might get one to somewhere near Sheffield in the not to distant future

The racks may look the same, but I think that you will find the 7-series is approximately 4" wider than the 2-series one. I inherited one on a 145 that I later used successfully on my 245, but it would not fit my 745 for the reason mentioned. I'm sure that yours will quickly find appreciative new homes. I passed mine on to a fellow forum member who intended using it on his cherished 145 some time ago. Regards, John. |

Pictured here fitted to my 240GLT which I bought years after the 740 and a Corolla. Kept the rack when PX the 740! A very kind offer! Not many around now! https://i.ibb.co/BN1RBpt/Volvo-240-GLT-1.jpg James:thumbs_up: |

From memory, it was a genuine Volvo accessory. It had a metal frame and cross pieces, and a number of longitudinal slats in timber. This rack attached to the car in six positions, but, unlike yours, wasn't totally flat. Instead, it had a slight curvature across the width of the car. More often seen on Amazons and 1 - series cars, I also used mine successfully on a 245, when it proved more than capable of carrying an upturned 3-man marine ply dinghy with ease. As far as I recall, there was no provision made for increasing the width, short of cutting it and welding in extension pieces. Regards, John. |
Morning
I am curious about your roof rack, as I'm sure at some point I'll need to shunt stuff around for friends and family.... Would either of your racks fit a 940, which is currently fitted with roof rails? |
