2013 XC60 power boot not working

Hi all

Sorry if it's been covered somewhere, I could only find a few bits.

Basically, if I press any of the buttons, ie dash, remote or on the boot itself, the boot pops open but doesn't lift. If I open it manually the button inside the boot doesn’t close it either, there's just a clicking sound.

I can't see any obstructions, I tried a reset I saw somewhere, holding down the button inside the boot for more than 3 seconds. No beeps though so maybe not for this model.

Any suggestions please? I thought maybe battery but it also doesn't work after a journey and with the engine running.

Had this problem after my struts were failing. It was a fuse found in the tailgate area. Not sure which one but was there. Ironically I took it to rybrook to diagnose failed struts and tailgate not opening. They confirmed struts were knackered and told me there was no signal from boot to central control after plugging in to computer. They quoted me an hours labour to check the loom as they were convinced it was a break in a wire.
Quick check in owners manual pointed me to fuse. Changed fuse hey presto all working. Bought new struts from eBay had them fitted 20 minute job and all ok now. Good luck hope it’s a fuse.

Sounds like you could have more than one issue. The boot struts are possibly worn and not able to lift the boot as they should. As for the button inside the boot not closing it, that could be the button you press itself being faulty (I believe its known as a micro switch).

You couldn't point me towards the ebay struts - I ended up replacing my motorised ones with gas struts as it was impossible to find them anywhere other than the dealer...

Thanks in advance

Last week - out of the blue - my tailgate stopped opening.

With the key, or the button on the dash, the tailgate unlocks but will not open. I can lift it but it doesn't stay open, managing to remain about half open. Then I have to force it closed, whereupon it locks automatically again.

In addition, the parking sensors have stopped working and I have a dash warning telling me to get them sorted.

The electronic handbrake has also apparently stopped working and I have a flashing red light on the dash, as well as a service reminder.

Since they all died at exactly the same time, I suspect a fuse - anyone know where I'd find the relevant fuse?

Found mine in the boot Compartment left side I think.

Have checked the fuses in the luggage compartment. None blown. There is a towbar (very poorly!) wired in but the fuses for that have also not blown.

However, the towbar bike rack no longer has any lights at all and there's no beeping sound from indicators, as before.

Everything just died all at once, so I suspect an electrical problem, rather than coincidence... especially after seeing the 'professional' wiring job - of which I'd be deeply ashamed. And I cannot do electrics!

UPDATE:
Frost on the car this morning and no sign of the rear screen defroster working. Bizarrely, the rear wiper and washer DO both work...

Have checked the rear fuses, none blown... is there a fuse at the front, dedicated to the rear fusebox? Might that be gone?

Will need to take it to an auto electrician, as my regular mechanic isn't keen on spending hours trying to trace an electrical leak...
