960 MK2 Sunroof Seal Wanted

Does anyone know where I can get hold of a seal kit for a 1995 MK2 960 sunroof?

Volvo is your best bet but it isn't cheap. Steel or glass sunroof panel?

Also try reviving it by rubbing silicone grease into it weekly for a month then fortnightly for two months the monthly for three months then three-monthly for 6 months then yearly. thereafter.

You'll be surprised how much you can recover a dried out seal this way simply because it's been neglected on the servicing.

I am sorry for the late reply but I hope this still helps you, Ian21401 had a very good post some time ago, (May last year I think) in response to an original post from aardvarkash10, he included part numbers.
This is a link to it....

Also worth mentioning that about this time last year I followed Dave procedure for refreshing a very tired sunroof seal on my 745. It worked brilliantly and is still almost as good as new......
Enjoy,
Mike

I've managed to crack and break my seal so don't think it'll do too well with silicone revival. Phoned Volvo and they told me the part was obsolete now. Even drawing a blank with automotive seal specialists! Help!

Try Volvo again, they've started making the seal again recently. Someone, somewhere is having a Toffee Crisp - errrrrrrr, scrub that, someone, somewhere has a part number for it.

That's the kiddy ^^^^^

Showing in stock at gcp.se aka Genuine Classic Parts for Kr703 or about £70 in UK money :

If it has to come from Sweden, it usually takes 2-3 weeks, depending on how many other parts they have on their ordering system at your local dealers.

Looks like those are for a MK1, do you know if that would still fit my car? The websites say it won't but can't imagine the difference is too significant?

Ah, yes, sorry about that - i'd just come from a thread discussing the 940 Mk1 sunroof (steel) and the brain cell hadn't caught onto the Mk2 bit which means a glass sunroof.

The steel sunroof has a downwards pointing lip the sunroof seal slides upwards onto with it's own lip - glass sunroofs have a groove in the seal which sits on the edge of the glass panel.

If you can find the thickness of the glass panel (usually about 5-6mm) and look for a generic seal with a flocked edge which is what i believe the 960 had, you will probably find something close. I beieve Volvo still used Golde as the sunroof manufacturer, even when they changed to glass roofs so maybe emailing them might give a result. I can't imagine they would use several different types of seal for glass sunroofs, it wouldn't be viable for them to hold a different variety of seals according to manufacturers whims and would involve much more testing etc for them to guarantee no leaks etc.

Alternatively drop these an email with details of your car - also point out you're in the UK as the 940 was discontinued stateside in 95 and the 960 only lasted a couple of years more.

There are other USA based parts suppliers that may have one as well, if you could post a pic of the profile of your seal, there are a number of other possibilities such as VAG, Merc, BMW that all used similar roof panels/mechs.
