2014 V40CC Brakes Rotors Warped
Hi all
My V40 CC is in for a 2year/30K KM service today and I have been told I need new brake rotors/disks and pads. This seems to be very low KM to change the rotors/disks.... What does everybody else think? Thanks Breezy |
Do you think the heat in Brizzie might be a factor? I can imagine how hot the brake pads/discs get out there. Hard braking in hot conditions could potentially cause warped dies.

First thing is to be aware that replacing brakes even before they indeed need replacing, is a common attitude on many garages who make money of out it.
There are several aftermarket (non original Volvo) parts that are the same if not better quality at a fraction of a price. Mintex and Akebono for pads and Brembo for brake disks are some of them. At such low miles, the only possibility to have warped front disks is because someone torqued the wheel lugs unevenly. Even with new rotors, if the lugs are again torqued unevenly the rotor will warp again. Try having the front wheel lugs torqued evenly, then drive the car to see if the vibration is still there. Also ask them to show you how much material is left on the pads. Red arrow shows the remaining pad material. Pads need replaced when this material is less than 2mm thick. Despite what garages will say, new rotors don't require new pads and new pads don't require new rotors. |
Thanks guys, the tightening of wheel nuts with air tools is a common theme I have found doing some research last night.

I've decided to launch a claim against Volvo under the Australian Competition and Consumer Act 2010 and the Fair Trading Act 1989 (QLD) after I found a document on the Volvo UK website which states that brake discs will likely be required to be changed at 72,000 miles/4 years.
I'll let you know how I get on! |
Just to let you know that my case was successful on the basis that the discs were not of durable quality.

Great outcome - and very swift as well.
