v50 2.0 litre limp mode
 

I bought this 2010 vehicle 2 years ago with 75k miles.
From the outset the "Engine system service required" message kept coming up intermittently. The car ran fine and only a couple of times did it go into limp mode., but when I switched ignition off and then started again it ran fine.
In march this year I took it to a volvo stealership to read the codes and clear the above message. They said that the dpf needed replacing as did the auto dosing module and tank (eolys I think) £1800!
Had the work done but the message came back again - couldn't go back to them as had to take car abroad for the summer. Difference now is that it only seems to come back with motorway driving (but not every time) about 4 -5 times and the message is not stored at all.
Yesterday it came up again and went into limp mode. Won't rev above 3k rpm but still drives fine at low revs.
I'm near Colchester and wonder if anyone fairly local has the software to check it over rather than take it back to the stealership.
P.s.
Should there be bubbles in fuel line from filter to fuel pump? Only asking as feels like fuel starvation symptom.

no air bubbles should be present in the clear pipe you will need to bleed the system with a vacuum pump also clean the sensors in the throttle body and check the oil quality is good and not diluted with diesel or over filled all these things could be the cause of your dash messages

Thanks Simmy. I found my OBDI reader and it comes up with P2002 code which says Diesel Particulate Filter efficiency below threshold Bank 1.
Could this be related to the sensor or should I be calling the Stealership that replaced DPF, ADM and tank earlier in the year?

if your oil is contaminated/ or over filled it will stop the dpf regening.. you really need to scan with vida to drill down into the fault. cheap obd readers only give generalised codes try all the cheap options before going to any garage look for an independent volvo specialist near you.

Oil was changed about a year ago and the level has not risen at all. Does that mean it hasn't been regenerating do you think?
(Sorry about double posting, didn't realise the first reply had gone through).

as you have had a new dpf and adm fitted i think you problem is caused else where.. lots or components need to work together for successful regen. you really need good diagnostics to find where the problem lies.. the things suggested are all possibility's which can be easily checked maybe you need to return to the garage who has had a large amount of money from you and ask if they can run a diagnostic scan for you to locate your fault report back with what they find.

I bought a new pattern sensor - was exactly the same as the one that was on the car - was a ford part!
Fitted it but the car was still the same. Took it to the stealer that did the work earlier in the year. Their diagnostics said that the readings coming from the sensor were inconsistent and that it needed changing - £95 for a Volvo one, my pattern one was £15! They also checked the original one and they said that was faulty too. Another £450 for diagnostics, sensor and further checks! Car now running well, message has not returned and they cleaned it too.
I hope this is the end of it.

£450 i think you need to look for an alternative garage that sound like a lot for diagnostics and a sensor always remember buy cheap buy twice. there are a lot of cheap parts and even sometimes come in genuine looking boxes iv done it myself its an easy trap to fall into but at least your car is fixed now:regular_smile:
