Bulldog stabiliser and Volvo's fixed tow ball.
Ok. I own a 2001 V70 fitted with Volvo's own fixed tow ball. What i would like to know, is there any way of fiiting a bracket for a Bulldog leaf type stabiliser? As this would be more cost effective than buying a Alk-Ko type hitch, because my van is 16 years old. Many thanks in advance.

You can buy a bracket that clamps onto the swan neck towbar from Bull Dog.

As Jim says , yes you can buy a bracket .

Hi,
I believe that the bracket for these fits between the towbar back plate the the two hook. All you'll need to do is unbolt the tow hook, remove position the bracket and put the tow hook back and bolt it all together. You may need to get longer bolts.. Des. . . ;) |
I used to use a similar stabiliser with a bracket onto the swan-neck towbar. I found you have to clamp it up REALLY tight otherwise the clamp just rotates around the tow bar. IIRC I ended up drilling the bar (and bracket) and welding a dowel in to keep it in place.
Obviously there is a questionmark over how safe it is to interfere with the structural integrity of the tow bar but I was happy that the quality of the welding etc would not compromise its strength (well it was a Vovo Bodyshop at the dealership I worked in that welded the pin in for me) Personally prefer the 'Witter' style tow bar with the removable ball that you can fit the stabiliser bracket on to as described by Des |
If its a swan neck here is a link to the bracket required.
