High Beam Headlight Malfunction
1 Attachment(s)
Hi,
I had "High Beam Headlight Malfunction" come up on the dash today. Attachment 152595 Was working perfectly fine yesterday as I was using Active High Beam Assist (the one where is automatically disables certain lights so it doesnt blind the oncoming driver). Activating High Beam - shows one of the little matrix LED on drivers side is not working. Last night the temporature dropped to -6, and the car was frozen solid this morning. I am hoping it might just be moisture. Anyone had this issue? Was it just the module? Any idea of rough costs? Thanks. |
Shouldn’t be …but Could be moisture or frost….why not let us know if it repeats itself when the temperature rises in a couple of days
|
Could be temperature related but unlikely. If an LED module has failed the whole headlight assembly has to be replaced at a cost of £1,000+.

In the last 9 months, I’ve had this error on my 90 a couple of time.
After 10mins or so, it works fine. Just put it down to a glitch. |
I had this error on and off for 2 years now. Dealer recalibrated the level sensors and flashed the module with latest software. Now, I get it very rarely and it has not gone worse.
|
Just to update it came back - looks like I will need to book in to get it diagnosed.

Update -
I now have 2 errors on the dash. For for high beam malfunction if I leave it on "AUTO". If I manually put it on dipped then put beams on i get the Active Bending Lights Orange light on the dash. https://www.volvocars.com/images/sup...ICEpnghigh.png Went to the dealers today to have it looked at. Cost a £110+VAT! After about an hour or so they told me it could be the LED module or the headlight itself. (Thanks for telling me something I knew already!) Cost for module is £385 + £50 for coding. Cost for new headlight is £1850. They said 8/10 times is the module. If I pay for a new module and they fit and doesnt work, they wont re-inburse me either. Thoughts? |
Not that it's much of a choice... I think I'd bite the bullet for module and coding...
Any form of goodwill? |

This is what annoys me, you have taken your car to be repaired. They should be able to diagnose and tell you it will cost X amount to fix it. Not it could be this or that and it might cost you this it or it might cost you that. Is it not there job to give you an accurate diagnosis, that’s what your paying the £110 plus vat for! Any numpty can plug a computer in and guess!! They should be able to diagnose the component! It’s all wrong in my book. They just like fitting bits and the fact they won’t reimburse you either if they get it wrong……….. well dick Turpin wore a bloody mask! |
I'd be tempted to try a different dealership. I had no help from my local one, so I tried a recommended one, 40 minutes away and they were chalk and cheese, couldn't do enough to help.
