V40 2018 T2 Clutch/slave cylinder problem

Would appreciate any advice or comments:
V40 T2 manual (2018), 56,000 miles, under Volvo Selekt warranty until April 24. Car recovered on Volvo Assistance when unable to select any gear (forward or reverse) when engine running, but able to engage gears when engine off. Recovery agent also could not move car into gear. Taken to local Volvo dealer, who advise that they need to strip out clutch, slave cylinder etc to determine problem. Worst case scenario is £2200 parts and labour bill for clutch kit, control cylinder and flywheel (plus air vent pipe and some misc bits). Labour 7.6 hours.
Dealer cannot commit to what will need doing but says worst case scenario (there is £175 diagnostic fee on top as well).
Does the above sound sensible way to proceed? Could the control cylinder be assessed without the clutch coming out?
Im really concerned that Volvo Selekt will try and wriggle out of this as bought car through Volvo dealer at 49,000 miles, thinking warranty would be a reassurance but dealer unable to state if it would be covered.
Thanks

When these cars were new they suffered clutch issues, pressure plate failures If I recall. Many were replaced under warranty. It’s a rock and a hard place because once they have it in bits they have you. A straight forward clutch replacement at a old garage is not going to cost you £2000. You would be about half that if not less depending on parts cost. In my experience of Volvo selekt, it’s not worth the paper it’s written on.

Update

Thanks and just an update: Volvo garage has advised slave cylinder has leaked in gearbox, so from what i know (and I hope) this should be covered....the clutch has been contaminated and the master tech advised that it would be need a flywheel, so hoping Volvo Selekt cover this .....
