Windscreen Side Seal Deteriation??

Noticed when cleaning the old girl a few days ago that I seem to have lost part of the offside lower portion of the side windscreen rubber seal.

Just wondered if anyone has had this issue, and is it possible to easily remove and replace?? Always assuming you can still get new seals.

Looking closely there is a clear gap where water can get in, is it ok to leave as it is?? Will water just run down under the scuttle panel and drain, or does this need fixing by perhaps masking taping down glass edge to keep a straight line, then using a black mastic non setting type of gutter sealant??

It is normal, I'd say 99% of 940s I've seen this bottom part is missing, it doesn't allow it to leak water anywhere as it is just for aesthetics. The windscreen is bonded in so the bonding does the job of keeping it water tight :)

As above, the windscreen won't leak as a result of that part being missing.

You can buy new windscreen seals from Volvo. They come in the three distinct parts (left, right and top) and each part is about £100 new; so £300 for a complete set.

The replacement parts are not such a good fit on the clips as the originals and the top seal does not come pre-shaped to the contour of the screen.

So even if you spend £300, manage to bend the poor-fitting new replacements to shape and get them to fit on the clips there is a very good chance the whole thing will come off again. Rain and passing a wagon under a bridge at speed create ideal conditions for testing this theory.

Mine has stayed broadly in place since sticking it onto the clips with Tiger Seal except the ends of the top piece have popped out again as the hot weather softens the tiger seal and causes the part to try to regain its original shape.

Like Forrest says, the trims are available (I think from Scandix a bit cheaper as well), but the top corner pieces are NLA.

Mine comes away from the screen at the top corners, not sure how to fix that apart from removing it all and bending it. Probably best to leave well alone.

Thanks guys, and with all that in mind, I think it's a simple decision made to do nothing then.

At least it won't add to the 'to do' list any further👍

A different problem
 

My B234F spent a year with a bloke who was doing mostly welding underneath but very slowly as he is in the process of dying from a pulmonary embolism.

There were also some pinholes around the windscreen trims presumably thanks to mechanised windscreen fitters who use incautious cutting tools to take windscreens out, fubar the paint, and just slap sealant in and the trims back so rust can develop. So, windscreen out and he did some pretty skilled welding. and some primering where it would not notice too much

Leaving out some parts of the story, he tried to refit the screen in the coldest bits of last winter and between the cold and his feebleness thanks to the embolism - when he went to put the trims back the screen was too proud so for some months I have been driving about with no trims. Waterproof, but embarrassing.

The medium term plan is windscreen out again, respray car at considerable cost but there is microbubbling so lacquer peel cannot be far away, refit windscreen. I have new trims at HUGE expense but this thread is worrying me. Somebody give me some good news!

Well, Baggy’s looks better than mine and mine only looks really terrible on one side.
