If they have been used then they are not of much use to anyone else as they are VIN specific.

Hi, many thanks for the unhelpful post. The CDs themselves are NOT VIN specific. So it makes no difference whether the CDs are used or new. There's a code which is required when updating using these discs and that is obtained through supplying VIN to Volvo which is perhaps what you wanted to say.

In future, before jeopardising someone's sale, please take a moment to confirm the facts.

Thanks.

i hope that you're right then I can sell mine but I suspect that if this is the case then Volvo are opened to massive piracy / cloning.

I think you have to be a Volvo MapCare Customer?

I have an S80 MY 2013 that uses these exact discs. Since new I have updated my Satnav twice using discs supplied under Volvo MapCare. Both times having received the discs through the post I had to go on-line and enter the VIN of my car to receive a unique activation code to use when you put the first disc into the car's DVD drive. To get the code your car has to be in the Volvo MapCare programme as part of the initial 3 years free, or for older cars because you have purchased additional years. I reckon these discs are only good if your car is entitled to Volvo MapCare. But in that case you get can the discs with an activation code anyway direct from Volvo so why buy them? (Just Google "Volvo satnav update.") There may be places on the Internet where you can get illicit activation codes for Volvo satnav discs, but I have never looked.

Does anyone know what Volvo charge? I had two 'free' updates for my MY2013 V70 (taking me to mid-2014 map dates), & had to apply online for the installation code. If they charged something like £50, I might think about updating, but I think when I asked when new, it was something like £170, which for a low-milage private user, is more than I want to pay. I'm also surprised that Volvo haven't contacted me & tried to talk me into it.

I see from the Map site that they require VIN and part number. My two update sets had the part number on the outside of the box. I assume that using a newer part number (for example, if I bought shotgun1's disks) together with my VIN wouldn't work? Anyone actually tried this.

Buy his discs and give it a try. I'm sure if it doesn't work he'll refund your purchase.

If it works you should be able to sell then again and get your money back.

If this is true Volvo will never sell another update discs set again!
