16" Steel Wheels on a 2015 V60 D4?

I have a 2015 V60 D4 with 17" Alloy wheels. I want to get a set of winter tyres and plan to mount on steel wheels for cheapness. I can find these only in 16", but can get with the correct tyre so that overall wheel/tyre combo is the same as I am currently running.

The 16" wheels have the same offset, and Bolt spacing as the current 17" Alloys, but I cannot get an answer from Volvo to tell me if they will fit or not before I press the button and order them. I am fairly sure they would fit, after all the space saver is a steel 16" wheel, isn't it? (I do not have one, but it seems from reading they are).

Can anyone tell me if this would work? Or would I need to splash out the extra cash for 17" alloys to be sure?

My spare wheel is 17"

S & Vs spare are 17!

Good to know about the actual space savers that Volvo supply. Doesn't mean that a 16" with the correct tyre wouldn't work though?

Currently running 215/50 R17 on the 17", want to move to

215/50 R16 on 16"

Offset, bolt pattern and spacing are the same, and the axle hole is the same. Will they fit? I guess the question ultimately comes down to will the brake calipers interfere, and this is the question I am trying to answer

Cannot answer the technical side (I'm a dealers target!)

One problem though. Will you need to have the speedo recalibrated? The rolling distance for 17 inch wheels will be longer than for 16s per revolution.

Take a look in your owners manual in the specifications section for wheels and tyres. I think it shows type approved sizes of tyres for 16” wheels. Therefore the only question is whether a 16” rim will fit over your brakes, and you should be able to see this by looking at the wheel and seeing if there is at least half an inch of clearance between the callipers and the rim. Provide you use a type approved tyre size, there is no need to worry about speedo inaccuracies since the overall wheel diameters will be the same within the permitted tolerance. The smaller rims have higher profile tyres to compensate: you’d probably need a 215/55 R16

Not if you change tyre profile compensate I have 18” wheels with 60 profile tyres and 17” wheels with 65 profile and there is a small difference in overall size.

You might find a set of used alloys for the cost of new steels

soo... in case anyone is interested!

After measuring, I decided that 16" Steel wheels with 215/55 R16 tyres should fit (vs 17" Alloys with 215/50 R16). And they do :) … except the wheel bolts do not fit snugly into the bolt holes in steel wheels because they have the shoulders on them for the deeper bolt recesses in Alloy wheels. This was the next problem. Every parts site insists you put in your registration number to identify suitable bolts for your car, which means that you cannot get the radius seat type bolt you need because all the wheel bolts that Volvo spec are for Alloy wheels. I measured what was needed and eventually managed to source the right thing from a bolts supplier. Should anyone go down this route you will need 20 x Wheel Bolts M14 x1.5, radius Seat, 35 mm Thread length. Total price £21.49

So now all sorted with 4 new winter tyres on steel wheels and the regular ones on Alloys stored in the garage till Spring

Did you buy your steel wheels from mytyres.co.uk by any chance?

Look for a set of second hand Ford 5 stud 17" wheels; loads about. They will fit
