Recommendations for bodywork repair

1 Attachment(s)
I was driving home from work when some debris came off an HGV on the other side of a rural road (40 limit) as we went round a bend.

It looked in the poor light like a piece of cardboard or wood but given the damage I found when I came home, I suspect the latter.

Anyway, it struck my bonnet and there's now a nasty dent, chip and some scuff marks. I can't see any other damage but is there anything I should check for?

And lastly, not really having had cause to use a body shop before, does anyone have any recommendations? I spoke to the insurer and they said it wasn't worth claiming unless it's going to be £400-£500 or more, so I'm currently looking to just get some quotes. I'm guessing a main dealership or indie garage isn't going to do bodywork repairs?

Have you looked on e-bay? You may find one in the right colour & swap them straight over, especially has you're probably looking at a new bonnett anyway. Certainly cheaper going second hand, even if it needs a quick blow over to revmove any marks or a colour change.

I was hoping it wouldn't be a new bonnet but that existing one could be bent back into shape. I've already had one quote which included the cost to replace the bonnet so it is looking more like a replacement bonnet than a repair, then.

To be fair, I've looked at the cost of new bonnets on ebay and certain breaker sites and they seem to be in the £400-£500 bracket which is what this company is quoting me fitting so I might just go ahead with them.

Looks like it's a call to the insurers...

There is a £300 excess on MIB damage claims, and claims for damage can only be submitted if the claimant does not have a comprehensive motor insurance policy that will cover the loss.
