Volvo 242
 

Hi everybody,

I may be stupid to ask for this as I have barely ever seen any 2 doors.

I have a volvo 340 and ive got to the end of my rag with it, nothing but problems.


If anyone has a 2 door in OK condition let me know :D

The 242s were never produced for the UK. Ones you may see are imported one AFAIK

You could go for a 262c - theres one on ebay at the moment under classic cars.

2 door 360 GLT's are pretty scarce, keep an eye on E-bay, or have a look on the 'Volvo300mania' site, something might turn up .

Best of luck finding a 242 in the UK.

Ben O Brien (a user on here) had a rhd converted 242 for sale in Ireland a while back, more of a project than a minter but as I recall it's a solid car.

Are you bothered about RHD?

If not, you'll find 2 doors for sale in Europe... e.g this fairly good round-headlight 242DL on mobile.de

If you want a factory RHD 242, you need to think about importing from Australia. If you are serious about that option, I have an expert old-Volvo contact there (who owns a not-for-sale 242GT).

The last one I heard about in the UK had just been bought by 240 expert Mike Brace in North Wales - he doesnt frequent this forum however. Try the forum in my signature if you want to PM him.

One thing you could do is a worldwide ebay search and save this on your ebay account so that you are alerted by email re any new listings. 242's come up for sale now and then in various EU countries.

As previously mentioned the only 2 door 200 series variants that come up for sale in the UK are the 262's. These were assembled in Italy and suffer more from rust than 240's. There are some good ones around though - they are all V6 engines however.

I know where there is a 242 that may be for sale for the right price, it would need a lot of work to get it straight.


IIRC it has all panels and glass and running gear but no engine.
