Remapping

I have a new S60. Enjoying it but wondering about remapping.

It's a 2014 D4 manual.

Choices are

Do nothing...it's a fine car

Polestar.....done by Volvo so shouldn't stress anything else...but for a manual is it worth it as a lot say it's the gearbox it improves

Tuning Box....think I'm not doing this

Remap....but does this need a rolling road to be worth it? Are non rolling road remaps worth it?

Any experience with any of these most welcome.

Thanks

I did mine about 8 years ago.

Polestar was not an option for my D3, suspect it would take it too close to the new D4 at the time which was less than 20 PS more than my car.

I tried a tuning box, turned the accelerator into a binary switch.

Went the remap route without rolling road, gave me 195PS and 470Nm. There is a 215PS map available now for my D3, I don't feel the need for that on a 13 year old car. Tuning the D3 was an ECU out bench job.

Thanks for the information. Are you happy with it? Any regrets? More wear on the other parts of the car. Appreciate the reply!

Any regrets ? No. It gives the car a bit of pep it was missing.

From what I've read on here, brake wear and tear is no worse, my car at 13 years and 100,000 miles is still on the original clutch and exhaust. Original factory front discs were only changed at the last service a few months ago. The intercooler return pipe went about 18 months after the remap others have reported on here theirs going too at similar ages/mileage without a remap, similar for the boost control valve. That has been the sum of parts* for my car over eleven years ownership - I bought the car at two years from new.

I wouldn't expect any major wear and tear, you are only doing a Stage 1 remap which is supposed to stay within the working parameters of original equipment. It's more an optimization than going looking for serious performance enhancements. Daily Mail/Express readers like to tell you the sky is falling in at every opportunity.

* Brake pads and discs are service consumables, I only mentioned the front discs above as I was genuinely surprised the originals lasted so long. They were done but didn't owe me anything.

Thanks. That's a lot of good information. Really appreciate you taking the time.

I'll drive it a bit more as I do my research of local companies.

Thanks again!

If you do get it re-mapped and ever have any work or servicing done at Volvo or a Volvo specialist make sure you tell them you want to retain it so they don't overwrite it with a software update.

Thanks for the heads up!

We're talking 10+ year old cars, how many still go to the dealer network for servicing ?

I suspect the random Vida codes being thrown when mine has been plugged in previously is because Vida can't access where it previously could due to the benching. You would need to ask whoever is doing your mapping if Volvo can overwrite as benching the ECU suggests reflashing which could block Volvo future updates. How likely is a Volvo dealer to remove the ECU and reflash it during routine servicing ?

Chances are I won't get mine serviced at the main dealership, but will think bear this in mind .

I had my D4 2014 done a year ago and no problems at all, much nicer to drive too. Had it done at my home, they had to remove the ECU as it couldn't be done via the OBD2 Port but still only took an hour :)

It's running 230hp and 350lbft of torque, I love it and its within the tolerances of the gearbox etc.
