Tyres XC60 XC60D5

My front tyres are nearly down to the wear bars. The tyres are Michelin all round which were on the car when I bought it. I try to keep tyre makes the same all round but I am not sure about the longevity of the Michelins. They are dated 0119 and as far as I can tell the car has done less than 17k miles since they were fitted which is not a great mileage bearing in mind the previous owner was a disabled lady so I don't think it will have been chucked about. Any thoughts folks?

But she may have scrubbed the fronts something chronic! Tyres are designed for going round and round not sideways……

What tread pattern?

I'm guessing from your signature you have the D5 AWD model (rather than the R-Design) which will have 18's on. Carefully driven, and rotated once, you should get over 40k out of a set. If you don't rotate I would expect to change the fronts at 30-35k.

So yes - 17k is pants...

Thanks all. Not sure how the lady might have scrubbed the tyres without some ambitious cornering. They are evenly worn across the tread. Perhaps that is a clue. Generally, outside edges tend to wear out first. I think a full chassis alignment check might be worthwhile.

With the greatest respect, there is no reason for the outside or edge of a tyre to wear out first, providing tyres are at the correct pressure , well aligned and taken care of.

Blimey, that is not a lot for Michelins. Have you spoken with Michelin about this? It may be they had a bad batch and may want to examine the tyres themselves.

By hoiking the wheel about while stationary….. of course you have no proof of the mileage, only what the clocks show……..how confident are you the mileage is legit?

Some people like to put full lock on and really scrub the spotters while stationary
