Uploading pics

Is there a step by step guide to uploading pics to this forum?

I'm not very good at this stuff so some guidance would be helpful.

Hi Shaun,

Will try to assist, as I'm also a bit of a numpty on the computer side of things, one of the reasons for me moving to an older Volvo😀. I do this mainly on an iPhone or iPad so PC steps might be slightly different, but hopefully you will get the gist.

When you're typing a message or post, right at the top of the darker grey Message box is what looks like a 'black paper clip' roughly mid way on the top row of edit options.

Once you click that the page should go to one headed 'Manage Attachments', click to grey box 'Choose File', this then asks where the photo is, on iPad you get 3 options, take a photo, photo library, or iCloud Drive.

You then select the one where your desired photo is held, think you can do 5 at once, and bottom section I think outlines types of files and sizes that are acceptable. Once all photos are selected, click upload button , and it should then appear as a line headed Current Attachments just below, go to bottom of screen and click Close This Window, and you should be then back on your message, once message posted the photos should appear as if by magic.

Hope that helps.

Oh, I had major issues doing this to start with, as it just said photo file sizes were too big, don't know how to change, but I found photos added on forum using my 10 yaer old iPad worked, but if i tried to do straight from iPhone, the files were too big. I suppose my newer phone stores photos with more detail. My workaround is either send photo from phone to myself on email, then save on iPad. Or do the same, but open my emails on my windows laptop, for some reason when adding photos on laptop, it asks what file size I want the attachment to be???

Cheers
Steve

The purely uploaded photos dissappear after a period (maybe in the order of a year) in what seems to be a policy from the days when HDD space was more limited. This can be very annoying when looking at historically known problems

If you use certain cloud service, they can also dissappear or change to paywalls.

What is "photo library"?

Most photos these days are too big a file , the outdated system this bulletin board uses won't allow them , you have to reduce the size of them in a photo editor program , it does list the max file size in a list under the CHOOSE FILE boxes !

The easy way (and also saves forum space) is to use a third party hosting service such as postimages.org

Copy that URL into your browser and load it up, set up a free account (very quick and easy, even for me and i'm a complete numpty with software) and then follow the on-screen instructions to upload the pics to their site.

When you want to use one of those pics in a post, open postimages in a new tab from the post you're creating and find the image you want to show.
Above the image will be the Share symbol, a bit like a V on its side. Click that and a list of links will appear. At the end of each link is a blue button. You need the "Hotlink for forums" link to post on here so find that link in the list, go to the end and click the blue button which should change to "Copied".

Go back to the tab with your post in and click in the post where you want it to appear, right-click your mouse and then click "Paste" followed y Return/Enter twice to leave a blank line under the pic before continuing with your words.

The big benefit of using a third-party host is if you want to post the same pics on another forum or email them to someone as they are all in one place, also useful for storage in case you have a problem with your own PC as they are stored elsewhere so are safe.
