T8 Tow
Considering changing the 2016 D5 XC90 to a later model T8. The car itself is ideal for us, lots of short journeys in the week, but im wondering about it as a tow car for our 1400kg single axle caravan, in particular fuel consumption. The D5 will average around 26mpg, id be interested in peoples experience with the T8.

With a 1400kg van any xc90 is going to eat it with no problem, the problem as I see it is fuel consumption.
Petrol v diesel in the v70 range always made my eyes water. Reports of 25mpg from owners I knew from petrol while I could get 42mpg from my diesel and that was solo not towing. It you go T8 , are you going to run premium E5 or standard E10? I did look at changing tow car when the ulez areas came to the fore, looked at a land cruiser, seriously, £46,000 will pay a lot of £12.50s for the few times I will use ulez zones. Going to save a lot of money and stick with the euro 5 diesel xc70 I have. Paul. |
I'm in the same boat - looking to change an XC90 D5 for a T8 Plug-in-hybrid. My van is almost 2000kgs so I know I'll use loads of fuel when towing but I'll benefit daily. The caravan club say its a good match. Have you found out any more?
