Turbo resonator pipe

It's been a struggle, but I've managed to change the seal between the turbo resonator and the plastic pipe that leads to the intercooler.

I've blown a few of these seals recently and this was the first time I noticed that the pipe leading to the intercooler - charge pipe? - has a broken mounting point. So I've ordered a new one as its pretty cheap. Next time the seal goes I intend to change the charge pipe, seals and swop the resonator out for a silicone pipe.

Two questions
1. What does the resonator do? It being made of hard plastic is a massive pain.
2. How do you get access to undo the jubilee clip at the turbo end. I couldn't see any way to get access.

Thanks in advance.

A resonator absorbs sound waves in certain frequencies and thus makes the turbo and engine generated impulse noise quieter, as well as smoothing out the air flow.

I had one on my Chrysler 300c and it was a source of constant leaks and boost pressure issues, so I removed it and replaced it with a series of bent ally pipes and silicon. There was no noticable difference, except no more nasty oily leaks......

Silicon hose ... does away with the resonator box and the nasty seals.

As to getting at the clip on the turbo ... absolute ball ache but there's a bracket you can remove down at about exhaust level and with a series of extensions and an 8mm socket on a ratchet you can get at it.

PS : I didn't notice any difference whatsoever in engine / turbo noise.

Thanks, once it blows the seal again I'm replacing the lot from turbo to intercooler.

Do you need the same orange seals and jubilie clips?

If you replace the Plastic resonator with a silicone pipe you do not need the orange seals. I would also recommend you don't use the standard strength of jubilee clip that sometime comes with the pipe, i bought two of the very strong jubilee pipe clamps like the mikalor style. think I paid £5 for a pair. 56mm-59mm and 60mm-63mm sizes fit perfectly on the replacement silicone hose.

Also i was able to remove and fit the top clamp using the method stated above but I didn't have to remove anything to get in there, just used a series of 10mm socket set extensions to get in. If your are a gynecologist who enjoys fishing it will be a breeze for you
