Tailgate issue
My 2009 V70's manual tailgate needs pushing up and if parked facing uphill, will not stay up and cracks the wife on the head as it slowly descends 😂
I am capable of changing the gas struts so that's not an issue. Is it with buying new or planet saving second hand in this instance? |
I would suggest that new is better. You know the parts are good and you will get another 10 years use.
Second hand could last 3 months as it is a part that wears / fails over time. |
Thanks Fresh air.
Of course they could have been going up and down as long as mine 👍 |
Check Volvo prices and compare with https://www.strutsdepot.com/
Volvo don't manufacture their struts, they just buy them in. If they are being too greedy with the mark up for spares, buy in your own. I did that with the load space floor lift strut, plus the fact that I was able to fit a stronger strut because that is what I wanted. |
Thanks Tatsfield 👍👍

I bought a pair par of these and whilst i dont think they are as strong as they could be (slow to lift), they do lift and stay up and quite stiff when closing so that are fit for purpose :)

It is possible to buy gas struts from that outfit with a gas escape valve that allows you to carefully reduce the gas pressure down from "too strong" to "just right".

Volvo sweden has a video on his youtube channel of him changing the tailgate struts, Stabilus 8584YH rated at 1190N.
|
Just to add, that refers to a powered tailgate.
