Hi everybody, new at this forum.
The name is Daniel, reciding in Los Angeles and i just bought a 721800es.

I´ve figured out that i have a 5 4 1/2 boltcircle since i have rear drum brakes, correct?

If so it´s the same boltcircle i used to have on my Mustang = awesome.
A couple of q´s tho, what would the correct offset be (and what can i get away with)? What backspacing? How wide wheels can i fit and finally how big (17" would be awesome..).

A lot of q´s i know, but im going to buy wheels this comming week and noone of my car buddies has a clue when it comes to volvos.

All 1800E&ES have discbrakes allround. That means the bolt circle is 5X4,25. For the pre '70 1800's with reardrums and the ama's it is indeed 5X4,5.
Here's a list with offset and boltcircle:
If rear drum brakes=5 x 4.5" (114.3 mm) E/ES & 140/160 series thru 1974: 5x108mm(4.25")x+40mm (positive offset); 200 series: 5x108mmx+25mm (some 14x5" rims, ), 5x108mmx20mm (most all other wheels, turbos are 5.5 wide), 5x108mmx10mm (240 classic wheels); 700 series: 5x108mmx25mm (most all OEM wheels); 940 all/960 series 91-94: 5x108mmx25mm, 960 series 95-98: 5x108mmx43mm; 850 series 93: 4x108mmx43mm (?); 850 series 94-00: 5x108mmx43mm.

As B20F says, the ES is 5 x 108mm (4.25"). AFAIK, this means that you're limited to later Volvo wheels, or Ferrari wheels! Yup, that's right - Ferrari :D Not sure exactly which models, but I've seen pics of a Volvo 745 with 308 GTB wheels and they appeared to fit well and certainly looked pretty good :D

Ferrari 308, 348, 355 and the Testarossa have the 5X108 boltpattern. Here's a list with cartypes and boltpatterns:

The wheel index is only showing 1 page so no Volvos listed.

The ES will accept wheels 15" and above from all of the RWD Volvos, 240 onwards, so you will have plenty of choice at the pick 'n pull. Early Mustang wheels will fit the Amazon if below about 6" wide.

7 or 7.5J can fit, but one needs to be careful about the offset and choice of tyre, especially if the car is to be lowered too.

Well someone has obviously retrofitted a drum brake rear end on the car..
Does´nt make much sense to me but well well.

I´ll have to drive out there and messure the boltcircle i guess. I need to do something about it tho since the neither of the two wheels i´m cosidering comes in a 4 1/4.

It needs to get either Cragar SS or Torq-Thrust D´s

Spacers that change the boltcircles perhaps? if they´re 10mm wide i´d have to hava wheel with 10mm less + offset, right?

I don't know why anyone would want to retrofit a drum back axle either, but it probably means you now have different PCD front and rear. A decent ES back axle shouldn't be had to find. Try a cry for help on Brickboard.

Hmpf!

The guy i had to check if i had disc´s or not messed it up.
It does have a discbrake rear end (made me very was confused since i seemed to remember it having discs when i bought it).
He´s not a car guy but i still cant see how you make that misstake.

Anyway i fianlly have room to work on it so it´ll be comming home in 2 days :)

Anyhow, it means i have the dreaded (for me) 4 1/4.
There is spacer to change it to 4 1/5 out there like these.

They are 1 inch think or 1,25 so what ofset would i be looking for in that case ideally?
See i´ve only ordered stuff for the mustang before "hi id like a set of torq.thurst II for my mustang 69" and well i got the correct back spacing and ofset etc right away

Oh, one more thing, i should with a lowprofile tire be able to fit 17X7 then? if so it would be awesome.
Coys c-55 17X7 looks good... and they´re 150$ each...

Forgot another thing, with a 1" spacer they would have a backspacing of 3" witch might be WAY to much in the front?And maybe in the rear too?
