3d printing 240 RHD stereo single din fascia

Hi all,

In a quest to upgrade the stereo on my, yet to be collected, 240 I went on a hunt for a single din adapter for the upper dash stereo fascia/plate for a right hand drive 240. I found it in the parts catalogue (part 1384796-7) but there were none to be found anywhere.

Attachment 136348

Then I thought maybe I could 3d print it so my search ended up on thingverse which has free/open source 3d models of all kinds of things. One was a LHD model of the plate - https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4069054 . My 3d modelling skills are non existent so I went to fiverr.com and https://www.fiverr.com/mabdelaty/do-...or-amazon-ebay and paid only €17 to get the model reversed/flipped to RHD.

Attachment 136349

I then paid a 3d printing firm here in Ireland https://www.3dqube.com/ €35 to print and ship the part to me. It has yet to arrive but so that I can keep the original stereo in tact and ready for replacement should I ever wish I thought it a neat solution.

I have uploaded the RHD model to thingverse now @ https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4904146 for anyone else to use.

Note that I have yet to try the part and will report back here when I do.

I hope this helps future stereo upgraders.

Now to hunt for a non destructive way to bypass the stock amp :)

How kind of you, many thanks.

I don't need the facia myself, but I imagine the file will be invaluable to other members. This proves the value of this forum yet again.

Well done,

Alan

Well done with this. Getting RHD versions of this as you said is next to impossible. It'll be interesting to see how closely this printed part matches with the other black plastics around it on the dashboard.

Did this printed part prove to be good? i.e. Worth having and close to how the original looked. I've seen some prototype prints and they need a lot of work to make them good. Photos?

@Derek Turned out OK for first attempt. Needed sanding down about 0.5mm all around to fit the stereo cage for the cheap simple stereo I got with bluetooth.

The finish on the print I got was quite rough and gray colour. Definitely needs spraying.

My spraying skills are very much lacking but I applied a cheap gloss black spray from Lidl and I'm happy for now but I will get another print done and get some matt dark gray spray instead.

It's good to know that I still have the original stereo and fascia if I need it though.
