Rev drop on the move

I noticed something very strange about my 360 (B200K) the other day...

I have gone about 1/2 a mile after a cold start, and was doing 40, and decided to see how well the car would roll down a slight hill.

So i took it out of gear, and the engine almost stalled. I had had it doing ~1200rpm on the choke at a junction about 15 seconds earlier, but as soon as i took it out of gear it hit about 250rpm and stayed there! The battery light actually came on!

I know its not the sort of thing that you'd do in normal driving, but whats going on?! It doesnt do it at all when the engine is warm. Any clues?

cheers

RE: Rev drop on the move

The emissions arrangements on the carb 360 are such that the fuel to the carb is shut off with the throttle closed but the revs above 1200.
Suggest don't try it again.

RE: Rev drop on the move

If the engine is similar to the B230 k I have the same problem. The ignition advance is temperature controlled as well. Net result is that when you start the temperature sets ignition and the choke flap. These should and i say should go in sync as the engine warms up but the engine block temp sets the ignition and water temp+electrical wires control the choke flap. I sometimes get this effect for a few minutes but then everything levels out. PS check your flame trap as this can affect engine in a similar way. Cheers Nigel

Hi James, You may have a failing plug lead causing one cylinder to not fire at low revs.
They fail at the plug end where they get hot.
You can check with an electrical resistance meter or invest in a new set of leads if you have had them a long time.

regards, steve

PS If you are tired of the 340 "image" I reckon a 340 would pass for a 4 X 4 if you mount the spare on the boot and paint the lower part of the doors textured black!

the car is due in for a service in the next few weeks, so that will no doubt be checked.

a 300 series off-roader...I never though of that, but it would look...interesting! Someone has made a dakar 2003 V70 XC

cheers
