spare wheel

I have just changed model to XC40 R-design Pro T4.
this has 20in wheels and no spare, previous car was
a V40 and i still have the temp. spare wheel,
the size of this is T125/85 16
Could this be used on the XC40 with 20in wheels
or is it way too small. Also what about the Jack that
i still have will that be ok for CX40.
Thanks for you help.

The space saver wheel in XC40 is on a 18” rim (125/70 R18), so I suspect no way a 16” will work. Offset as well is likely not even similar - so it won’t clear the brakes. As for the jack - XC40 having significantly higher ground clearance than V40 - I’d have to say it won’t work (jack will likely be to low at its maximum height..) but you can test that easily.

3rd Party Space Saver Wheels

Has anyone had any experience of 3rd party suppliers of space saver wheels? The Price of the Volvo offering seems excessive for what is required of strictly limited time “get you home” piece of kit.

Space Saver Spares

I did some searching eventually bought a new basic spare wheel and space saver tyre from a supplier specialisng in these items.

Volvo

Expensive and difficult to see where the additional value lay to justify the price.

Ebay

Various offerings of differing quality and provenance. Some looked quite good value, but less so when carriage costs were included.

National tyre dealers

Some offered space saver wheels and tyres, but tended to be the more expensive aluminium wheels. No cheaper than buying yourself.

Local independent tyre dealer

Refreshingly honest! Told me that they would buy direct from Volvo and if that's what I wanted I would probably be better off trying to negotiate myself. However very helpful in other respects and offered some useful general advice.

Internet spare wheel specialists

A number of offerings at a variety of price points, the main difference is a steel wheel or an aluminium one. Clearly the tyre may vary, but it's not going to be on the vehicle for long. Delivery included in the price.

Conclusions

As always, shop around. Ebay is definitely worth a look as you might be able to find something local and convenient. Otherwise I would look towards the internet based specialist suppliers.
