Turbo replacement, Mechanic want to open sump??

Hi there,

My turbo needs replacement, and I dont feel quite confident enough to follow the guide and do it myself.

The mechanic says its going to be expensive because he has to open the sump and check the basket for the oil pump?

Is that kosher? It wasnt in any of the guides....

Would love your opinions!

Many thanks,
Pete

well he is not wrong , Turbochargers only fail when they have a problem with the oil supply or some foreign object gets sucked in , They don't wear out as such .

If the car has been poorly maintained the sump and Oil pump pick up gauze could be restricted by caked black gunge . Technically he should also renew the oil feed pipe and oil drain pipe for the Turbocharger .

Many garages will not give warranty to the replacement turbocharger unless this is done .
