S60 D5 Brake Upgrade?

Hey guys,

I've been running 253bp/400lbs/ft on the D5 for a while now and the stock brakes are more or less up for the new power but the front discs and pads aren't a million miles off a change so thought it would be a good time to invest in a better brake set up.

Sorry if this has been asked before but I don't know much of anything about brakes! What kind of cost am I looking at for better brakes. Do I just need bigger discs and pads or new Callipers too?

Cheers for your help guys!

you just need the bigger discs and brackets for the calipers you already have and pads to suit ..

Thanks!

Has anyone got larger discs they are using they recommend?

The problem is that upgrading just the front brakes unbalances the car when braking, particularly in the wet, and prior to the abs kicking in. Ideally you need to upgrade both the front and rears to a known combination. If you have dynamic stability and traction control dynamic stability and traction control then it will need recalibrating. Remember that the front left and the rear right calipers share the same hydraulic line and the contact area and swept area are designed to stop the car from swopping ends. Regards Peter

What size rims do you have and how much clearance is there between the rim and the present calliper. Regards Peter

If you have pegasus alloys to clear big calipers i have a set of Front 4-pot Brembo Calipers from a 2004 S60R. The car had done approx 39000 miles when broken.

With these calipers you would need the 330mm discs and pads to suit.

let me know if your interested.

It is 18" Alloys on the car, and I think it is the pegasus alloys.. These Ones

It is the S60 Sport (2007) and it has the Active Chassis, the button infront of the gear stick with Comfort/Sport setting.

I don't mind spending the money to do the front and back, spent 700 getting the Rica sport tune and I feel the brakes just aren't quite enough to tame 400lbs/ft!

Im not too sure if those will fit over the front brembo calipers off the S60R.....

i will enquire.

I can actually speak from experience.

On my remapped D5 I'm running T5 sized 305's on the front, stick with normal Volvo discs they are more than up to the job. As Clan states you just need the larger caliper brackets as the caliper is the same on the 286's. I've fitted Goodrich braided hoses and run R600+ brake fluid. I'm currently running yellow stuff front and rear but would not recommend them as I get strange random brake fade when they are really (really) hot. Having experienced Carbotech XP10's that is what I would go for next but they cost £££ for a set, they are worth the £££ but I can't really justify it. Police spec pads are supposed to be good so I may try them next.
