Playing videos in the car

This sounded like a fun idea. Might be useful when waiting for Mrs Essex to finish her shopping.

So I found a couple of short videos I had on the Mac and put them on a usb. Yes! It works! Only when in MP4 format but maybe that will do.

Trouble is, where to find any full length movies to download legally, and ideally free?
We've got Netflix and Amazon Prime but that doesn't seem possible from these. Same trouble with YouTube, or am I doing it wrong? Some ideas from google about download sites but there are scare stories about dodgy software and the legality.

Any suggestions for a safe, free and legal way of getting a playable movie onto a usb please?

Your problem will be the system shutting down after 10 minutes to preserve battery

I have a smart phone (note 9) and I hang it over steering wheel by its case and watch stuff from the various streaming services,ie sky go, channel 4, bbc iplayer etc. Works for me as Mrs 100k+ is regularly an hour at the supermarket. Keep ignition off so no legal issues, although most supermarket car parks are private land. Download programmes saves data...
Cheers Bob

I would think all the legit services, have their set up to only play through their apps, to protect copyright. So as 100K+ says, download it on your phone (assuming you have one) and watch it through the apps.

I think some older films might be an option to download, if that interests you.

Sure I read that on the newer cars with AAOS that there will be an option of watching movies etc whilst stationary in the next release?

Assume that there will be an option to download suitable apps from the Google store - Netflix, YouTube etc?

Thanks for the link. I have now successfully downloaded "Sherlock Holmes and the Secret Weapon" which, to be honest, would not be my first choice for a film but it's something to watch. Cheers!

I've tried other files such as .mov but can't get them to play. Does anyone know - is it only MP4 files that work in a Volvo?

See post #5 here: https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showt...ighlight=Video

.mov files aren’t supported directly but sometimes if you change the file suffix from .mov to .m4v or .mp4 it will then play.

Get a tablet and BT off the car speakers, the video option is errr bad! no real control over it and postage stamp ratio output isn't great to watch, it's ok if you are waiting on someone for 20 minutes but that's it imo.
