Sunday 27th Jan there is a meet of the new Hertfordshire section - starting at 11:30 at South Mimms Services on the M25.

Where abouts in the carpark will the meet be happening? A back corner out of the way I assume?

I'm very glad someone has stepped up and set up a section in Herts - I don't think I've ever seen a Thames Valley meet happen, so fingers crossed you guys have more luck. You can count me and the AWD in at most meets!

Both Section Secretary Chris Hounsell and I would like to say a very BIG thank you to all those members (we welcomed 13 cars and their owners) who came along and said 'Hello' at the inaugural Hertfordshire Section meeting yesterday organised at South Mimms Services. Arriving early, Chris had commandeered a whole section of the car park which was soon filled with a whole variety of Volvos. Beautiful blue skies and sunshine added to the convivial atmosphere enjoyed by all
Our lunchtime gathering was very much a 'dip a toe in the ocean' affair to discover if there are a number of enthisiastic members in the area and whether a regular meeting is achievable.
I am delighted to say the answer is most certainly 'YES' with attendees not only travelling from the localityto the event but also from Essex, Bedfordshire, North London and Middlesex. Volvo models ranged from the latest XC60 to a brace of lovely 240 series estates. James' stunning V70R AWD drew many admiring glances, the specification of this car is quite simply mind-boggling!
The Hertfordshire Section therefore looks forward to welcoming members to our next meeting at South Mimms Services on Sunday 24th February 2013 from 11:30 onwards.

You will find us on the right-hand side in the main car park opposite the service buildings. Don't forget to log-in your registration number at the Premier Inn reception if you intend to stay longer than two hours.

Wrap up well, the forecast is for it to be a little chilly on Sunday!

A month later and with raw February North-Easterly winds seemingly blowing straight across from the Urals, five hearty Herts Section members arrived at South Mimms. Good to see Arthur Bailey and Mark Parsons again, their respective 760 saloon and estate keeping each other company in the car park. After the usual pleasantries and tyre-kicking, we very soon retreated into the warmth of the Services building where large cups of Starbucks coffee and piping hot chocolate were enjoyed while the extremities thawed out!
A good discussion took place about the Section's plans for the coming season. Several suggestions were put forward for the calendar. Among them were our attendance at the Enfield Pageant of Motoring, Kimbolton School Country Fayre and Classic Car Show, Croxley Green, Harpenden Common and the Knebworth Classic which is held over the Bank Holiday weekend in August. Once confirmed, dates will be forwarded to the Secretary for inclusion in the VOC Diary.
For the immediate future the Hertfordshire Section of the VOC will continue to meet and welcome members at South Mimms Services on the last Sunday of every month from 11:30 onwards. You will normally find us parked on the right-hand side of the car park and please remember to check-in at the Days Inn reception to avoid any charge.
