Standard Coil Rating
Does anyone know what the Ohms rating is for the standard coil with armoured cable, as fitted to the Amazons and 1800 series up to '69?
I'm ordering an electronic ignition kit that needs a coil resistance of 1.5-3.0 Ohms. Thanks. |
3 OHMS is normal. Don't use a 1.5 OHM coil as it will overheat.

That's why I'd like to know the Ohm's rating for my original equipment coil Derek, I can't find the information online and I can't test the resistance as I cant get to the positive output because it's hidden inside the armoured cable. |

I have a working coil with the cable cut and I have a multi meter all I’m missing is the brains to know what to do, if you tell me how to check it il do it this weekend |
measure the resistance between the lead going to the ignition switch and the lead going to the distributor.

Six volt coil are typically 1.5-1.7 ohms. Twelve volt are twice that, 3-3.4 ohms.

Have to say if I was going to the trouble of fitting electronic ignition I’d go for a new high output coil as well, if you use a bulkhead fitting and a black coil it’s not far from the look of the original |
