Wrong Fuel

I have posted this on the V70/XC70 page but I guess I would get a better response on this page.

Our son has just filled up our 2006 XC70 D5 with petrol by mistake. Unfortunately, he only realised when it started spluttering and died.
Car has been recovered is now being drained as we speak.
I know this is not good, are we looking at fuel pump, injectors damage or is there a chance we could get away with it with fresh fuel.
Appreciate the tight tolerances on the pump etc, but I guess I am really asking has anyone on here been in a similar situation and what was the outcome?

Before the engine stops it probably has enough diesel (lubrication) and if the gasoline percentage gets to high the engine will stop, so the damage can be none/minimal.
Suck the fuel out and or take the feeder line of before the high pressure pump and let the electric feeder pump , pump the rest out.
Then fill up with 5 liter diesel connect the feeder pipe again and let the feeder pump circulate again then disconnect the feeder line again and push it out again with the feeder pump in a container...
Check if you can ignite a sample of the fuel with a lighter if it cant be ignited the diesel part will be high enough....
Fill it up completely with (bio)(lubricates better)diesel and circulate again with the feederpump ... the gasoline part will be so minimal that it will be no harm.... but a small portion ash free 2 stroke oil or high percentage biodiesel for lubrication.

Here is clip where they treat this problem in roughly the same manner.....car starts with no apperent damage

That sounds re assuring. The car was recovered to my local garage who I have complete faith in.
The only thing for me is that I am away at work now until 23rd June so can not really speak first hand with the mechanic as its Sunday and it all happened yesterday.
As stated above, I have complete faith in the garage.

Great news chaps,
Car is back on the road. The garage drained, flushed and purged the system. Wife has now filled it up with BP Ultimate. We normaly only use BP or shell and use the ultimate every third tank full.
She tells me it is as good as ever so happy days.
