I am buying a 1988 240 GL can this run happily on unleaded or do I need LRP?

Thanks

Unleaded should be fine for this. Mine runs OK on it.

Ik you have a B200K or a B230K engine your might use petrol with RON98.
IF you have a B200F or a B230F RON95 petrol is sufficient.

Have a look at the small display at the top of the timing belt cover. provided that this is your original it should show the engine type. It will probably be a B200E (being a 240 GL).

Thanks for this - I now have the car - 117K on the clock and pretty good body, quiet ride - rather pleased for £300!

Yes you are spot on it is a b200E - from what others have said this is an injection. The guy I bought it off tells me it has been running on unleaded (95). It seems to be fine on it - but I can see that given the engine it should really be using 98?

Does it make a huge difference to the engine or performance?

I have been running B200Es both in 240s and a 360 GLE for a number of years now. Always used unleaded and can see no reason to change - unless someone out there knows better. :+

That's grand I will stick with unleaded 95 octane then.
